Biography of Dr. John Fortino, Pastor
Bishop John Fortino was born on January 4, 1960, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to Italian immigrant parents. At a young age, he responded wholeheartedly to the apostolic message, despite strong opposition from his family’s religious tradition. On January 15, 1973, at just thirteen years old, he was filled with the Holy Spirit and baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ a week later by Apostolic pioneer Wuckola Jactzuc. His deep passion for missions would later distinguish him as the first Bishop President to rise from the missionary field.

In the early 1980s, Bishop Fortino moved to the United States to pursue theological studies at Fuller Theological Seminary. Shortly thereafter, he was appointed National Evangelist in 1981 by then-Secretary of National Missions, Bishop Roberto Ramírez. His ministry quickly flourished as God used him to spark revivals across the nation.

His leadership journey continued in Washington, D.C., where he played a key role in the growth of the Apostolic Assembly. In 1987, he was led to plant “Fountain of Life” Apostolic Church in Miami, Florida. Over three decades later, he continues to faithfully shepherd this thriving, multicultural congregation of over 700 members. From this home base, eighteen new churches have been established under his direction.

In 1997, he was elected Bishop Supervisor and led the reestablishment of the Florida District, serving with distinction for seven years. The 1998 General Convention elected him Secretary of National Missions, where for eight years he guided church planting initiatives along the East Coast and throughout the Heartland. In 2010, he was elected Bishop Vice President and also served as the founding director of the School of Pastors. Four years later, in 2014, he was elected the eleventh Bishop President of the Apostolic Assembly, a role he held until 2022.

In addition to his pastoral and organizational leadership, Bishop Fortino is a prolific author, having written fifteen books, including The Life of the Redeemer and The Spiritual Life. He earned a Doctor of Ministry (D. Min.) degree from Knox Theological Seminary in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in May 2013.

Today, Bishop Fortino serves full-time at his home church in Miami, devoting his time and energy to strengthening the local body and expanding the kingdom of God. He lives in Miami with his beloved wife, Sara, and together they enjoy their growing family. They have three daughters: Verónica (married to Jaime Quirarte), Valeria (married to John Cortiella), and Deborah (married to Heyner Fiallos). They are proud grandparents to three grandchildren: Valentina, Gianluca, and Jaime Jr. (JJ).

El Obispo John Fortino nació el 4 de enero de 1960 en Buenos Aires, Argentina, en el seno de una familia de inmigrantes italianos. Desde temprana edad, respondió con todo su corazón al mensaje apostólico, a pesar de la fuerte oposición de la tradición religiosa de su familia. El 15 de enero de 1973, con solo trece años, fue lleno del Espíritu Santo y una semana después fue bautizado en el Nombre de Jesucristo por el pionero apostólico Wuckola Jactzuc. Su profunda pasión por las misiones lo distinguiría más adelante como el primer Obispo Presidente que surge del campo misionero.

A principios de los años 80, el Obispo Fortino se trasladó a los Estados Unidos para continuar estudios teológicos en el Seminario Teológico Fuller. Su ministerio floreció rápidamente al ser usado por Dios en avivamientos por todo el país.

Su trayectoria de liderazgo continuó en Washington, D.C., donde desempeñó un papel clave en el crecimiento de la Asamblea Apostólica. En 1987, fue guiado por el Señor a fundar la Iglesia Apostólica “Fuente de Vida” en Miami, Florida. Más de tres décadas después, continúa pastoreando fielmente esta próspera y multicultural congregación de más de 700 miembros. Desde esta base ministerial, ha establecido dieciocho iglesias nuevas bajo su dirección.

En 1997, fue elegido Obispo Supervisor y lideró la restauración del Distrito de Florida, sirviendo con distinción durante siete años. En la Convención General de 1998 fue elegido Secretario de Misiones Nacionales, dirigiendo durante ocho años iniciativas de plantación de iglesias a lo largo de la Costa Este y el centro del país. En 2010, fue elegido Obispo Vicepresidente y también fungió como director fundador de la Escuela de Pastores. Cuatro años más tarde, en la Convención General de 2014, fue elegido como el undécimo Obispo Presidente de la Asamblea Apostólica, cargo que desempeñó hasta el año 2022.

Además de su liderazgo pastoral y organizacional, el Obispo Fortino es un autor prolífico con quince libros publicados, entre ellos La Vida del Redentor y La Vida Espiritual. En mayo de 2013, obtuvo el título de Doctor en Ministerio (D. Min.) del Seminario Teológico Knox en Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Actualmente, el Obispo Fortino sirve a tiempo completo en su iglesia local en Miami, dedicando su vida al fortalecimiento del cuerpo local y a la expansión del Reino de Dios. Vive en Miami junto a su amada esposa, Sara, y juntos disfrutan de su creciente familia. Tienen tres hijas: Verónica (casada con Jaime Quirarte), Valeria (casada con John Cortiella) y Deborah (casada con Heyner Fiallos). Son orgullosos abuelos de tres nietos: Valentina, Gianluca y Jaime Jr. (JJ).
